Site Surveys

The primary purpose of a site survey is to accurately confirm the proposed WLAN design coverage model, WLAN usage and predictable reliability. The RF environment in which the WLAN will operate is analyzed and documented. A well executed site survey provides performance and reliability assurance and addresses areas such as system, user, and aesthetic requirements as well as network applications, growth, performance and security. It also takes into consideration the placement challenges of the RF spectrum as well as the long term viability of the radio frequency (RF) links.

In order to assess all of these requirements and meet customer needs, NEC will determine:

  • Existing condition of network environment
  • Network readiness for wireless
  • Optimum number and placement of Access Points to provide the best coverage for support of real-time and converged applications

NEC addresses these critical questions by meeting the wireless project stakeholders and conducting a survey of existing locations, floor plans and building material specifications. From that information, NEC designs, deploys and – where required – provides long-term maintenance and management of the WLAN and associated network elements.

NEC offers two types of Site Surveys:
